New needles

Swapped needles at a clubmeeting yestersday. I have been suspecting a bit of lean running with my HS4 AAQ needles. So the went for for a pair of ABA.On paper the ABA is a bit richer, though the change isn't much noticeable.

Car stills seems to be a bit down on ooomph. Ignition is set a 6 degrees. I better sort the megajolt soon ......

The twilight zone - between bodging and destruction...

True horrors revealed. I started removing filler from the bonnet. There were a small hole which needed to be cleaned up in order to be patched. It turned out that this bonnet has been the object of severe bodging - borderline destruction.

Car has obvoiously had a front impact. The nose had been cut of another car. Not as such an entirely bad idea.

Where things go wrong is:

1: it isn't properly aligned.
2:it has been done by someone who prefers working with filler more than working with metal

So basicly thing has been put on - then beaten half to death and given a good filler- job.

Amazing thing is that it actually wasn't visible due to the amount of filler. That said - parts of the bonnet had appr. 1.5 cm's of filler.

Future plans aren't clear. We will give at a go with repairing. If it turns out to be beyond salvation we have another topplate which migt be put on instead. Though wwe prefer not to, as we kind of have other plans for that one....

Sad thing is - this bonnet is really really nice (apart from the bodge)- There is no rust in the wheelarches and everything looks OK.

Enjoy the horrors

Still alive

No updates since march. Hmm. Well - a few bits and bobs have been done.
Mostly I have been driving the Spit. It has given me 3.000 effortless kilometres this summer. It has even been flogged round a track at the club track day. Not exactly sure that it was a good idea though it was funny.... Looong story which ended up with a melted plug

Also a bit of work has been done to the GT6. Rear valance as been attacked.

Also the rear light panels were quite bashed in due to the rear-ending.

Effort to put it right has made it somewhat better. Actually as good as it gets without replacing the entire rearwing.

Removing a bodge

.... and introducing another.

My generator has been held in place by a less than pretty mix of jubilee-clips and strips. Last night I removed the old dynamobracket and replaced it with a newer one fron Canley (kindly given to me by The Mad Welder).

The original bodge - produced "en route" during Round Denmark Reliability run when the rear bolt snapped.

And here the result of the evenings work - another bodge. It appears that my generatorbolt is on the shortish side. When tightened the rear leg of the generator moves inwards. Must purchase another bolt, and shim the bracket.

On the road again - spring has sprung

What a nice (though a bit chilly) day to bring the spit out.

Got to get the idlescrew spring on the carb. Idling at 2000 RPM . Embarrasing....

There is a hole in my GT6 (and pocket)

This pretty piece of rust came out of the GT6 the other day. Bye bye rusty rearvalance.

Amazing piece of repair - car has been rearended once, and had just the middle of the rearvalance replaced

Hmm - has got BODGE written all over it

YUK

Glad it is out

Bonnet ready for sandblaster

YIHAAAAA. Finally done removing underseal from the yank GT6 bonnet. It was well and truly given a very thorough underseal, hich was extremely difficult to remove.

Here the bonnet has been put aside. Next task is to remove underseal from the mad welders car (while he in exchange helps putting a new rear valance in the GT6

Sonic cleaning

New toy bought - sonic cleaner with a nice 6L tank capacity.

Made a few experiment last night. Not too succesfull, plenty of room for improvement. A proper cleaning agent for instance. Was using fairy liquid. Also need a baske - not good enough just lying in the tub like this.

Carb float bowl before sonich bath

and carb piston

Two hours later, not impressive, but OK. Saved me a lot of work.

This is because piston was standing and not rotated once in a while. Needs another go - perhaps suspended with a piece of string

Bit more luck with the float bowls

Water got plenty dirty though
